A Breakthrough

My rides on Reiss have been going strong the last two weeks. I think the pulse therapy did make a difference in him along with some of the other things we did for him. I am proud to say I jumped him the other day and did not have a panic attack. I have not jumped Reiss since July 2018. I still can not tell if he is just being a jerk or if something bothers him. But the rides from James and Steph seemed to help because we where able to back off on them riding him. Now they each ride him one day during the week.

I have noticed that his behavior gets worse when he gets days off. I adjusted my riding schedule so he does not get a day off now, but gets two days of lighter work instead. I am going to continue with the pulse therapy every other week to keep him feeling at his best.

The next time the vet comes I am going to have them do flexion tests on his hock and stifle joints. Even though he is on the Adequan shot I want to give him the best chance this way we can enjoy our rides and not fight. When they do joint injections, they replace the natural fluid in the joint with a synthetic version of it. First, they stick a large needle in to the middle of the joint and drain out the fluid that is there. Next, they put a normal needle in to the joint and inject the new fluid in the joint. Then they seal up the injection site with a liquid bandage. Reiss would not be able to be ridden for about two days but I am wondering if this would make him feel better. My other horse need injections at least once a year sometimes twice depending on how hard he was working.

We are going to continue on with what I have been doing and take it a week at a time.
